MR Thermometry Data Correlate with Pathological Response for Soft Tissue Sarcoma of the Lower Extremity in a Single Center Analysis of Prospectively …
2020
Background: There is a strong biologic rationale for using locoregional hyperthermia in soft tissue sarcoma and a randomized trial reported significant improvements with hyperthermia. The aim of this study was to describe the opportunities of magnetic resonance (MR)-based thermometry in a cohort of soft tissue sarcoma patients undergoing combined radiotherapy and locoregional hyperthermia. Patients and Methods: For eleven evaluable patients, tumor volume (VTu) and a separate volume for temperature analysis with reliable temperature distribution (Vtherm) were contoured for every hyperthermia treatment (103 therapies). Temperature data were recorded for all tumors and were correlated with cli…
Long-term outcomes in stage IIIB breast cancer patients who achieved less than a pathological complete response (pCR) after primary chemotherapy.
2009
Abstract Learning Objectives After completing this course, the reader will be able to: Summarize the main risk factors for relapse in patients with T4 breast cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.Evaluate the role of hormone receptors and HER-2 as determinants of risk of relapse after neoadjuvant treatment.Compare the difference in outcomes between patients who achieve less than pCR in relation to receptor status. This article is available for continuing medical education credit at CME.TheOncologist.com. Purpose. Pathological complete response (pCR) to primary chemotherapy is the main determinant for improved disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). The primary endpoints of ou…
Das Plattenepithelkarzinom des Ösophagus – Stellenwert der Chirurgie im therapeutischen Konzept
2010
Squamous cell carcinomas of the oesophagus are a completely different entity from adenocarcinomas in regard to their aetiopathology, tumour biology, co-morbidity, operative risk, and prognosis. For superficial squamous cell carcinomas, the risk of a relevant lymph node metastatisation already exists from the mucosal infiltration level m3 onward, and thus oncological resection is indicated. Neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy is the international standard for locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma. The early-response should be determined. Non-responders must be identified early, and a salvage operation with a justifiable operative risk should be carried out. Due to its high complete response rat…
18F-FDG PET-Derived Tumor Blood Flow Changes After 1 Cycle of Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy Predicts Outcome in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer
2016
International audience; Previous studies have suggested that early changes in blood flow (BF) in response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and evaluated with 150-water are a surrogate biomarker of outcome in women with breast cancer. This study investigates, in the triple-negative breast cancer subtype, the prognostic relevance of tumor BF changes (Delta BF) in response to chemotherapy, assessed using a short dynamic F-18-FDG PET acquisition. Methods: Forty-six consecutive women with triple-negative breast cancer and an indication for neoadjuvant chemotherapy were prospectively included. Women benefited from a baseline F-18-FDG PET examination with a 2-min chest-centered dynamic acquisition, sta…
[18F]FDG-PET predicts complete pathological response of breast cancer to neoadjuvant chemotherapy
2007
To evaluate, in breast cancer patients treated by neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the predictive value of reduction in FDG uptake with regard to complete pathological response (pCR).Forty-seven women with non-metastatic, non-inflammatory, large or locally advanced breast cancer were included. Tumour uptake of FDG was evaluated before and after the first course of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Four indices were used: maximal and average SUV without or with correction by body surface area and glycaemia (SUV(max), SUV(avg), SUV(max-BSA-G) and SUV(avg-BSA-G), respectively). The predictive value of reduction in FDG uptake with respect to pCR was studied by logistic regression analysis. Relationships betwe…
